Galé beach is one of the best spots on Portugal's South Coast for beginner surfers. The vibe is nice and relaxed and the waves fairly gentle and slow. Your instructor will give each hen a board that best matches her size. Once you've all wriggled into wetsuits, it's time to wax those boards and hit the water. Exciting!

You'll learn all the essentials, like how to lie and then sit on a surfboard in the water without tipping over. Nail the fine art of paddling for a wave at the right moment, and catching a ride in to shore on your tummy. Once you've crushed that, have a go at kneeling on the board and popping up to standing position.

Natural or not, you'll have a right giggle. Beginner surfing is full of comedy moments! Even those who pick it up quickly will topple off their boards with arms windmilling and hit the water with a mighty splosh!
