Cambridge Punting Tour
Sit back, relax and take in the sights...
Do sightseeing in a whole new way with a relaxing Cambridge Punting Tour of the glorious College Backs area of the city. Never heard of punting? Think water taxis in Amsterdam and gondolas in Venice. They seat up to 12 people and come adorned with cushions and blankets, it's like a fabulous water chariot for fabulous ladies! Why see College Backs? This beautiful area of the city dates back to the 16th century, when the University of Cambridge used the land along the River Cam as pastures, gardens and orchards.
As time went on, the university replaced these orchards and pastures with beautiful birch and elm trees, and sturdier bridges. In the 18th century the wilderness that can be spotted on the side of Queens Road was laid out, and still exists today. If you're a culture vulture, you'll love the feeling of seeing things just as they were four centuries ago. Happily, The Backs were listed as a Grade 1 historic park in the mid-1990s, making them a permanent fixture of life in Cambridge.
