Planning a hen weekend? Here are six of the best bars in Newcastle

From cool and quirky to cheap and cheerful, Newcastle is a world-renowned party city that has it all. No matter your tastes, theme, favourite tipple or group size, there’s a destination that’ll deliver and provide your party with the weekend of their lives.

We’re no strangers to Newcastle, and we’re certainly no strangers to throwing an absolutely belter hen do (that’s Geordie for ‘good’, best start practising). So, to help you out, we’ve put together a list of bars in Newcastle that’ll help you celebrate in style!

In no particular order, here are some of our favourite Newcastle bars.

ABOVE, Vermont Hotel | Lower Dean Street

Offering up 360-degree panoramic views of the city while you get stuck into some mouth-watering food and cocktails, ABOVE is a must-visit destination and one of the finest rooftop bars in Newcastle.

Sure, you won’t always get the weather, but who cares when surrounded by the iconic mix of historical and modern architecture, firepits, fancy drinks, DJs, live music and even an outdoor cinema screen.

Located above the Vermont Hotel on Lower Dean Street, this gem looks just as good inside, where the ample space is packed full of stunning interior design.

Pleased to Meet You | 41-45 High Bridge

Tucked into one of Newcastle city centre’s historic side streets, Pleased To Meet You offers indoor and outdoor dining and drinking, with some tasty food on offer (if that’s your kind of thing).

This sophisticated Grade II listed building serves up a ridiculous amount of gin-based cocktails and a menagerie of other delicious drinks, craft beers and cask ales. Its proximity to Dean Street and Bigg Market ensures that you’re right in the mixer! (Pun intended)

Leila Lily’s | Grey Street

This fancy floral hideaway is undoubtedly one of the top bars in Newcastle. Situated right in the thick of things on Grey Street, you’re never more than a short walk away from plenty of other attractions and eateries.

Leila Lily’s serve up some good grub themselves; the rosette restaurant is the ideal stomach-liner before working through the creative cocktail menu.

Widely regarded and even awarded as one of the best bars in the northeast, this Instagrammers paradise is one to add to your hen weekend list.

Lola Jeans | 1-3 Market Street

One of the most incredible city centre hangouts, Lola Jeans have just been treated to a makeover, adding to this already popular spot's appeal. It’s ideal for large groups, has an excellent menu to choose from and an extensive cocktail menu of original creations.

The bar caters for parties and events, making it the perfect night (or day) spot for hen parties who prefer the finer things in life!

Alvinos | 88 Pilgrim Street

Cocktails, cool beers, funky decor, foosball tables, live DJs, and pinball machines are just some of the delights on offer at Alvinos. This destination is a must for parties looking for activities and a little bit of everything.

Nestled just a short walk from the buzzing Bigg Market area, though it appears small from the street, you’ll find three floors, two bars, a heated roof terrace, and plenty of room for the whole party.

The Botanist | Monument Mall

The first chain on our list, we can’t overlook The Botanist; its location and stunning setting make it one of the best cocktail bars in Newcastle. Packed full of features and character everywhere you look, they’ve got a massive selection of food, drinks and plenty of space to enjoy them.

Whether you’re sitting underneath the impressive dome and indoor foliage or taking things up to the cosy rooftop terrace, this bar is among the best and most popular stops for hen parties.
