The Complete List Of Responsibilities For The Bridal Party

Planning a wedding is no child’s play. While it is truly the happiest time of their lives for many people, it is also equally stressful. After all, it is THE big day of their lives, and everything has to be perfect. The importance of attention to detail cannot be overstated.

For this reason, organising a wedding is not a two-man job. Instead it requires active participation from all members of the bridal party to ensure smooth sailing, all through the wedding.

The Bride And The Groom

While the obvious responsibility of the couple is to get married, there are a number of crucial decisions that they have to make before that. Ideally, the bride and the groom should work together to take these decisions, and both of them should be happy with the outcomes. Some such decisions are:

  • Setting a budget for the wedding
  • Compile the guest list
  • Determining the venue, date, and possibly the theme of the wedding
  • Sending out invites
  • Choosing wedding rings
  • Writing down the wedding vows

Apart from this, the groom has to prepare a groom’s speech. In many modern weddings, even the bride gives a speech. So if that is something you would like to do as the bride, make sure you come well prepared!

The Parents

Traditionally, the bride’s parents would pay for the whole wedding ceremony. However, nowadays, this expense is usually divided equally between either the bride and the groom or their respective families. Apart from that, the responsibilities of the parents are quite straightforward:

  • Helping the bride and the groom with the family side of the guest list.
  • Helping out with the ceremony preparations and offering moral support.
  • Attending any and all rehearsals.

Apart from these, the bride’s father has a couple more responsibilities like walking the bride down the aisle, and of course, preparing the ‘father-of-the-bride’ speech.

Maid Of Honour

The maid of honour is arguably one of the most important people in the wedding. She is the go-to person for the bride, who happens to be the most important person present at the wedding. For this reason, there are a number of responsibilities that rest on the maid of honour’s shoulders:

  • Organising the hen do.
  • Helping the bride with wedding shopping and dress fittings.
  • Attending wedding rehersals.
  • Helping the bride get ready before the wedding.
  • Helping the bride with the dress during the reception.
  • Holding the bride’s bouquet at the altar.
  • Signing the marriage license as the bride’s witness.

Apart from this, there are a number of other responsibilities that the maid of honour has, like keeping record of the RSVPs, making sure the ceremony goes down smoothly, and offering moral support to the bride during stressful times.

Best Man

Similar to the maid of honour, the best man is the go-to man for the groom. Traditionally, the groom’s brother or best friend have the honour of becoming the best man. His responsibilities include:

  • Organising the stag party.
  • Making sure the groomsmen attend all rehearsals and suit fittings.
  • Preparing a best man speech.
  • Making sure the groom reaches the ceremony on time.
  • Keeping the rings safe before the ceremony.
  • Singing the marriage license as the groom’s witness.

Conclusion

Making a marriage happen may sound like something that is done between the husband and the wife, in reality, the case is usually quite the contrary. There are a number of close friends and family members that have to work in tandem to ensure the ceremony goes down smoothly.
